10/16/2026 Walter Salas-Humara This Friday Night

Sometimes your heroes become your friends.

Walter Salas Humara is one of those artists who was a big influence on me (and all my alt-country song-driven rock band pals) back in those early days. He was a leader of the seminal roots band THE SILOS, which blew all of our minds with its major label album in 1990. The Silos were the antidote to 80s neon and cheesy synth pop.  My friends and I wore out that cassette in the car, driving back and forth to our own gigs in Boston, New Haven and NYC. But that was okay. Because every one of us had a copy of that cassette. And because they were based in NYC, I had many opportunities to see The Silos live, so I did.

Speaking of cassettes, I remember sheepishly bringing Walter a demo of mine one morning after he had played in my town.  And then, a hundred years later, I realized we had become friends, hanging out at rooftop cocktail parties at SXSW or in Nashville (sounds more glamorous than it ever was).

Walter came out of the gate revved up with a keen and compassionate wit and a hook-driven roots sense. Just listen to the song Caroline by The Silos.  Or ... Let's Get Some Drugs and Drive Around. Keep going, right up through his current work.  He's never stopped.

This Friday, it'll be an honor to have him on the Lucky Dog stage. Get your tickets now. Peace out and all that.
